The mission of the American Red Cross was born on the battlefield through Clara Barton’s care for Civil War soldiers. Today, the precedent Barton set continues across the world through the Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces program.
Members of the Red Cross expeditionary mobile workforce are part of a special team, serving U.S. military members who are deployed to designated theaters of operation in remote portions of the globe, such as Kuwait, Djibouti, Iraq, Poland, Jordan and Romania.
Michael Chavarria, a Tampa-based Service to the Armed Forces Specialist, served on Red Cross Team 55, working in Kuwait and Jordan for nearly five months, returning this February.
