Why Attend?

In sudden medical emergencies, seconds matter. A person experiencing severe bleeding or sudden cardiac arrest often depends entirely on the nearest bystander before an ambulance can arrive. Big Easy Lifesaver Day brings New Orleans EMS and Red Cross instructors and together in one place to teach practical, life-saving skills in a relaxed, family-friendly setting.

Free Hands-On Training Stations

Rotating skill sessions run throughout the day. Participants can complete one or all four core stations:

• Hands-Only CPR: Master the rhythm, depth, and technique of high-quality chest compressions to sustain vital circulation during cardiac arrest.
• Stop the Bleed: Learn how to quickly assess severe injuries and use direct pressure, wound packing, and tourniquets to stop critical bleeding.
• Choking Relief: Practice standard airway-clearance protocols and abdominal thrusts for both adults and children.
• Narcan (Naloxone) Administration: Identify early signs of an opioid overdose and learn how to safely administer reversal spray.

Family Fun & Community Resources

• Touch-a-Truck Experience: Step outside to explore New Orleans EMS ambulances, Red Cross disaster relief vehicles, and emergency response equipment. Children and families can meet local first responders and see the tools behind 911 response.
• Free Wellness Screenings: Check your numbers with free blood pressure and basic health vitals checks provided by community partners.
• Community Partner Fair: Connect directly with local organizations offering health services, youth programs, and family assistance.

All activities, health checks, and trainings are 100% free. Because training stations use dedicated practice equipment and maintain small group sizes for effective learning, advance registration is strongly encouraged. Walk-ins are welcomed on a space-available basis.
