NEW ORLEANS, MARCH 27, 2023 — Entergy, longtime partner of the American Red Cross, is supporting tornado recovery efforts with a $100,000 donation following Friday night’s tornadoes that left a trail of devastation in Mississippi. In addition, Entergy shareholders have pledged to match employee donations to the American Red Cross up to $50,000. This generous donation supports American Red Cross relief efforts to provide immediate assistance to those in need, as estimates indicate that as many as 800 structures received major damage or were destroyed.
Entergy’s donation delivers the support needed to provide thousands with safe shelter, serve hundreds of thousands of meals in the coming days, and to deploy more than 200 trained Red Crossers from all over the country to answer the call for help. In fact, teams on the ground have already served more than 53,000 meals, delivered disaster emergency supplies such as tarps, clean-up kits and first aid kits to more than 2,800 households, and continue with damage assessment so financial assistance can be provided to those in need.
“Our hearts go out to our neighbors in Mississippi and appreciate Entergy’s support during this crucial time when they need safe shelter, emotional support and other resources quickly,” said Shawn Schulze, Chief Executive Officer of Louisiana Red Cross. “Financial donations are the quickest and best way to get help to those who need it most, which give people the flexibility to purchase what they need, and we can’t thank Entergy enough for their generosity.”
“The devastation to our communities is unfathomable and we’re grateful for the critical support the American Red Cross is providing to meet the basic needs of those affected,” said Haley Fisackerly, president and CEO, Entergy Mississippi. “We’re proud to partner with them, knowing that as we are working to rebuild and restore electrical service for our customers, their efforts are also helping these Mississippians to begin rebuilding their lives and communities.”
