Jill Orton serves as Chief Executive Officer for the American Red Cross Kansas/Nebraska/SW Iowa Region serving 4 million citizens with a workforce of over 2,000 volunteers and 38 paid staff. She oversees an $8.7M operation across 3 states that includes 6 chapter territories and 7 boards of directors. Team building and change management are her expertise.
Jill is a Nebraska native with a long standing Red Cross career, beginning as a volunteer in Hastings, NE. Her first paid position came in 2000 as part of the Health & Safety staff for the Heartland (Omaha, NE) chapter. She became Director of Health & Safety for the chapter in 2006. Jill also served as Executive for the Loess Hills Chapter in Council Bluffs, IA from January 2010 until August 2013.
Jill was appointed Region Disaster Officer in 2013-2014, directing Red Cross efforts during the Southeast Nebraska tornado outbreak, Mother’s Day tornado outbreak, and Pilger tornado in Northeast Nebraska. Her leadership assisted victims of these storms by delivering food, clothing, shelter, comfort and care. In addition to answering the call for help in Nebraska, Jill has served in several other disasters, including Superstorm Sandy, the Thurman, Iowa tornado, and Missouri River Floods.
