COLUMBUS, May 4, 2023 – The American Red Cross is welcoming a new Service to the Armed Forces (SAF) manager in the Central & Southern Ohio Region. Jennifer Wells of Hamilton, Ohio will lead the Service to the Armed Forces efforts throughout the 47-county region, providing Red Cross support to Veterans’ Administration Hospitals in Cincinnati, Columbus, Chillicothe and Dayton, as well as to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Blue Ash Air National Guard Station, Springfield-Beckly Air National Guard Base, Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base, Zanesville Air National Guard Base, Defense Supply Centers in Cincinnati and Columbus.
Having served in the Army, Wells brings both veteran experience along with over a decade of work experience related to helping the military, veterans, and their families in improving their lives. Prior to joining the Red Cross, Wells worked as both the veteran outreach coordinator for Easterseals Redwood, Military & Veteran Services and as a peer mentor coordinator for Hamilton County Veterans Treatment Court, both located in Cincinnati.
As the SAF manager Wells oversees the region’s efforts to assist in everything from emergency communications for deployed service members, support to military and veteran medical facilities, care for military & veteran caregivers, providing access to financial assistance, providing information about local community resources and resiliency workshops aimed at improving multiples areas of life for military members and caregivers.
“I joined the American Red Cross because I wanted to continue to serve in an organization that aligns with my personal values as well as one who has a deeply, impactful mission and purpose that serves the local community and worldwide," Wells said.
Wells was selected following a thorough nationwide search and interview process. “Our Service to the Armed Forces line of service is the very foundation of our organization,” said Stephanie Byrd, Regional Red Cross CEO. “The Red Cross was born on the battlefields of the Civil War where, our founder Clara Barton, administered to needs of soldiers on both sides of that conflict. Because of that proud tradition and because of the critical needs of some many service members, veterans, and their families in our region, it was imperative that we select the right individual for that job—Jennifer Wells is that person.”
