A. Time commitments vary according to the volunteer positions you choose to pursue. A Red Cross representative will discuss specifics with you after you complete the application process in Volunteer Connection, our volunteer management system.

A. Age requirements depend on the experiences you are interested in. Many of our highest need volunteer positions require volunteers to be 18 or older. While some positions permit ages 16-17, we can’t guarantee that volunteer opportunities are available outside of traditional school hours. A. Upon completing your volunteer application, you will explore exciting opportunities by filling out a self-assessment or connecting with a local Red Cross representative. Consider how much time you are interested in dedicating, your skills and talents, where you are willing to volunteer and your schedule. Based on your specific interests, you will connect with a Red Cross representative who supports volunteers in the positions you are interested in.

A. Based on FDA regulations and organizational policies, the Central and Southern Ohio Region of the American Red Cross does not currently accept volunteer phlebotomists. However, if you would like to volunteer to gain experience in this industry, there is a need for individuals to help support blood drive operations by providing great customer service. There is also a need for volunteers who deliver lifesaving blood to area hospitals, and provide many other exciting, critical community services.

A. The first step to becoming a Red Cross disaster response volunteer is to apply using our volunteer management system, Volunteer Connection. Create your Red Cross ID to begin your volunteer application and complete all of the listed application steps. A Red Cross representative will contact you to discuss the next steps, including volunteer positions you may be interested in. Volunteers who support disaster relief efforts are required to complete training prior to their volunteer work. American Red Cross volunteers can support disaster relief operations in all of these areas. Responding to disasters in other countries requires a significant amount of experience and training, and the opportunity to support international disaster relief happens very rarely. We encourage people to get involved with American Red Cross disaster relief and explore other interests from there!
