News Story: Helped Local Families Following Home Fires and other Disasters
Whether it was an apartment fire impacting dozens of families or a house fire affecting a single person, our dedicated volunteers provided shelter, food, relief supplies, case work and comfort to those who experienced fires and other disasters in 2023.
News Story: Installed Free Smoke Alarms Across the Region
Working with partners during our National Sound the Alarm Campaign, and throughout the year, we installed free smoke alarm in local homes; provided home fire safety information; and crafted fire escape plans in thousands of homes throughout our region.
News Story: Honored Volunteers for Saving Lives as Part of Home Fire Campaign
Volunteers William Bunger & Rick Hyatt (not pictured) installed FREE smoke alarms in the Greenville, Oh home of Susan & Micheal Brown. When fire broke out, the Browns were alerted by those alarms and escaped without injury.
News Story: Delivered Programs and Services to Veterans, Military and their Families
We provided thousands of services to military members, veterans, and their families. An example of one of those services, we facilitated the return home of a local solider serving in Iraq following a severe injury suffered by his little brother.
News Story: Worked with partners to bring Resilient Community Initiative to neighbors
Red Cross Resilient Community Project aims to leverage the Red Cross work in preparedness and help bridge racial, ethnic, and minority disparities in housing, health, and hunger for families in local at-risk neighborhoods.
News Story: Region Surpasses Goal For Sickle Cell Awareness Month Donations
The region set a goal of 318 units to be collected at our Sickle Cell Awareness Month blood drives & collected nearly 400 units throughout the month. During the month Columbus chapter Executive Director Cory Paul joined local leaders to light up city hall.
The region unveiled a new blood mobile that allows for the biomed team to do blood drives in underserved or hard to reach areas. The new blood mobile can host four donors at a time and projects to collect 2,500 units of blood per year.

The region celebrated the opening of it’s sixth blood collection site with the grand opening of the Delaware location in September. The site projects to collect up to 28 units per day, and 5,000 units per year.

News Story: Region Hosts Event to Honor Donors That Saved a Life
After Robin Sharps needed 114 units of blood to survive during multiple surgeries, the region was able to track down 25 of the donors and bring them together to meet Robin and the medical staff that operated on and treated her, for a recognition event.
We honored four employees of Troy’s ConAgra Foods for using their Red Cross CPR training to save the life of a coworker (not pictured) and four Chillicothe firefighters for saving a man during a cardiac episode at an Ohio racetrack.
News Story: Honored Kroger Chair and CEO Rodney McMullen as Humanitarian of the Year
The Greater Cincinnati Tri-State Chapter presented the 2023 Clara Barton Award for Humanitarian Service to Kroger’s Rodney McMullen for his humanitarian concern for our community.
News Story: Began New Partnership with Columbus Crew
The region began a new partnership with the Columbus Crew soccer team this year where throughout the month of August donors gave in honor of the Crew, including at a blood drive hosted at Lower.Com Field where over 100 units were collected.
