While delivering packages in Cleveland Heights, Amazon driver John Davis smelled smoke. Looking across the street, he saw it billowing from the basement of an apartment building. John rushed to help and learned a boy and his father were inside. He entered the home and, unable to see, yelled for them to crawl to him. He grabbed the boy and took him outside to safety before going back in and bringing the father out. Both escaped without injury, thanks to John’s heroic actions.

While making a delivery in Slavic Village, Uber Eats driver Christopher Baldwin noticed smoke coming from a home. He quickly pulled over and dialed 911 while running toward the house. Banging on the doors and windows, Christopher yelled out to see if anyone was inside. A woman, unaware her home was on fire, replied and said she was in a wheelchair. Christopher knew he would need help and began yelling for someone to assist him. A young man appeared and together, they went inside and pulled the woman out.

Coast Guard Petty Officer Nathaniel Howard was at a scenic overlook in Cuyahoga Falls when he heard a cry for help from the river below. A woman without a life jacket was rapidly drifting towards the drop of Little Falls. Officer Howard quickly made his way down the steep ravine and into the water, reaching the woman and pulling her to dry land. Turning and seeing her husband had also fallen in, he went back into the water and safely pulled him to shore.

While practicing at Roye Kidd Field in Cleveland, players on the Cleveland Rams football team smelled smoke. Seeing a house on fire, members of the team climbed a 30-foot fence and rushed to help a man who was stumbling out the front door. Team members continued to evacuate nearby neighbors while the team nurse and EMS personnel helped the man and others who had been rescued. Firefighters put out the flames and transported the man to the hospital where he was in stable condition.

While on duty Christmas Eve, Euclid police officers Trevor Thomas and George Harper were the first to arrive on the scene of a home fire. Two handicapped people were trapped inside as a fire in the kitchen spread. After promising to find her husband, Officer Thomas carried the woman to safety while Officer Harper ran in yelling for the man. He was able to locate the 86-year-old and carried him to safety.
