OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, Friday, May 31, 2019 — The American Red Cross will be on the scene in the Town and Country neighborhood as residents begin cleaning up after the near-record flood in the Tulsa area.
As flood waters recede and residents are being allowed back into their homes, efforts are being coordinated for a June 1-2 cleanup operation at the Town and Country neighborhood at 145th and Highway 51, from 8 a.m. to dark.
“We will have numerous volunteers in the neighborhood,” said Mary Jane Coffman of the Red Cross. “We will be providing clean-up supplies such as bleach, mops, gloves, rakes and shovels. We also will have our disaster mental health teams out for those who have been affected and would like someone to talk with.”
Along with our partners the Salvation Army and the Southern Baptist, the Red Cross will be providing meals this weekend.
The Tulsa Area Emergency Management Agency is requesting volunteers to help with cleanup efforts in areas affected by flooding in a neighborhood. It’s strongly advised volunteers have tetanus shots prior to volunteering.
Residents can receive tetanus shots from the Tulsa Health Department at any of their immunization locations. The Tulsa Health Department will be at Town and Country Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon for residents and volunteers who want tetanus shots on site.
