Seven years ago, I took a new job and today I’m leaving a family
The American Red Cross Central California Region Chief Executive Officer Jim McGee is leaving his role with the organization after more than seven years of service. McGee has led the 10 county region since October 2010, joining the Red Cross after a professional career that included management roles at Walt Disney Company and Anthem. McGee leaves a Red Cross team that recently provided relief to the Ventura and Santa Barbara communities after the historic Thomas Fire and Montecito Mudslide disasters.
During his Red Cross career, McGee led a series of efforts to improve the overall impact, relevance, and financial position of the local Red Cross. During this time, McGee demonstrated a passion for the people behind the Red Cross mission, building stronger relationships with employees, volunteers, community partners, and financial donors. The Red Cross Central California Region celebrated its Centennial Anniversary this past year, commemorating 100 years of service in our local community.
“My time with Red Cross has been incredible. I’m truly honored to have served in this role – the best role I’ve had across my career. Seven years ago, I took a new job and today I’m leaving a family and an organization I truly love and respect,” said McGee.
As the organization did when it selected McGee as CEO seven years ago, the Red Cross will conduct a nationwide search led by Board of Directors Chair Melissa Livingston. The search committee will include a mix of leadership volunteers and community leaders that represent the large and diverse ten country region.
“This change is bittersweet,” said regional Red Cross Board Chair Melissa Livingston, Jim is both a colleague and friend. Jim leaves this region in the very best of circumstances. He has built an incredible team over the years.”
McGee is leaving to join a small life sciences company in Newbury Park, allowing his family to stay local in the community.
“I believe change can be very healthy for an organization. The current team in place is exceptional with an incredible network of volunteers, community partners, and financial supporters. The future of our local Red Cross is very bright – I’m honored to have been part of the journey the last seven years.”
