JACKSON, CA (August 8, 2025) — The American Red Cross will continue to operate a shelter through the weekend for anyone evacuating the Tiger Fire in Amador or Calaveras counties. The shelter is located at the Amador Senior Center, 229 New York Ranch Rd., Jackson, CA 95642.
Residents are urged to visit the shelter for respite as temperatures are expected to reach the upper 90s through Sunday. Snacks and water are available to all visitors. It is not required to stay overnight at the shelter to receive Red Cross services.
Everyone is welcome at Red Cross shelters, including those with service animals. The Tiger Fire shelter can accommodate domestic pets, as well. Pet crates will be made available, but pet owners are encouraged to bring their own crates if possible.
The Red Cross delivers help to anyone regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation or citizenship status. Volunteers are onsite to provide visitors with a place to sleep, meals, beverages, snacks, comfort and care.
If possible, those who stay in a Red Cross shelter are encouraged to bring the following items to make their stay as comfortable as possible: prescription medications, items for pets, extra clothing, pillows, hygiene supplies, or comfort items. It is also recommended to bring special items for children such as diapers, formula or toys.
