SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA (July 25, 2023) – The American Red Cross and 95.5 KLOS are joining together to rock Southern California’s airwaves and help patients in need of blood transfusions with the 42nd Annual 95.5 KLOS Blood Drive. The 95.5 KLOS community is invited to roll up a sleeve on Friday, August 4, and Saturday, August 5 at 26 blood donation locations throughout Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura Counties.
“For more than 40 years, 95.5 KLOS listeners have rolled up their sleeves to help save lives,” said Jay Winkenbach, Regional Donor Services Executive with the American Red Cross in Los Angeles. “We’re continuing to see a concerning trend this summer – blood donations are being sent to hospitals faster than they are coming in. We are urging healthy individuals to schedule a time to share their good health.”
Score a Commemorative 95.5 KLOS T-Shirt and More

Helping Save lives for 42 years
Volunteer blood donors have helped make this annual summer event a great success since 1981. With the help of thousands of Southern California blood donors, the 95.5 KLOS Blood Drive has collected nearly 200,000 units of blood products over the last four decades to help hospital patients of all ages. Accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, mothers experiencing difficulty during childbirth and those battling cancer are a few examples of hospital patients that depend on the generosity of blood donors to receive blood products.
KLOS Program Director and VP of Programming for Meruelo Media, Keith Cunningham said, “On most days, KLOS is a fun and irreverent Rock music and entertainment brand, but giving back and helping the community each year, in various ways, is at the top of our priority list. Every year at this time, we watch in awe as the loyal and caring KLOS listeners step-up to help save so many lives through their blood donations. As a brand, It’s one of our best and favorite moments of the year, thanks to Red Cross and the KLOS listeners.”
Donation appointments can be made by downloading the free Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org, calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or enabling the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device and using sponsor code: KLOS. Appointments are recommended.

About blood donation
To donate blood, individuals need to bring a blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification that are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also must meet certain height and weight requirements.
Donors can also save up to 15 minutes at the blood drive by completing a RapidPass®. With RapidPass®, donors complete the pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of donation, from a mobile device or computer. To complete a RapidPass®, follow the instructions at RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass or use the Red Cross Blood Donor App.
