RIVERSIDE COUNTY AND SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY (Aug. 31, 2022) – Local blood donors are in for a tasty treat this September. Baker’s Drive-Thru is teaming up with the American Red Cross to provide those who donate at designated blood drives in the Inland Empire a card redeemable for a Double Baker and regular milkshake, while supplies last*.
“We are thrilled to partner with Baker’s Drive-Thru to encourage community members to roll up their sleeve and help give the gift of life,” said Yevette Baysinger, Red Cross of San Bernardino County Executive Director. “By donating at affiliated blood drives in September, our community can help those dependent on blood transfusions for treatment or lifesaving care and receive a special gift, courtesy of Baker’s Drive-Thru.”
The American Red Cross is facing a concerning drop in blood and platelet donations this summer. In recent weeks, the Red Cross has experienced a decline in donations, leading to a 20% drop in the blood supply. This decline in donations is a trend that may soon make it tougher to keep blood products stocked on hospital shelves. Hospitals and patients need donors to book appointments now to give blood or platelets and help prevent a blood shortage.

About blood donation
To donate blood, individuals need to bring a blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification that are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also must meet certain height and weight requirements.
Donors can also save up to 15 minutes at the blood drive by completing a RapidPass®. With RapidPass®, donors complete the pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of donation, from a mobile device or computer. To complete a RapidPass®, follow the instructions at RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass or use the Red Cross Blood Donor App.
Blood drive safety
The Red Cross follows a high standard of safety and infection control. The Red Cross will continue to socially distance wherever possible at blood drives, donation centers and facilities. While donors are no longer required to wear a face mask, individuals may choose to continue to wear a mask for any reason. The Red Cross will also adhere to more stringent face mask requirements per state and/or local guidance, or at the request of blood drive sponsors. Donors are asked to schedule an appointment prior to arriving at a drive.
