SANTA ANA, Calif. (Dec. 12, 2018) — The American Red Cross today recognized Mazda North American Operations, headquartered in Irvine, California, for supporting Red Cross Disaster Relief through the Annual Disaster Giving Program (ADGP) with an annual pledge of $1 million. As part of this commitment, Mazda will grant five vehicles to Red Cross Chapters in Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties to help deliver emergency supplies and services to families affected by disasters.
ADGP members pledge donations year-round, in advance of major disasters, to ensure the Red Cross can respond immediately with comfort and care when disasters occur, help families during the recovery process, and ensure communities become better prepared for the next disaster. Donations from members like Mazda support Red Cross disaster relief activities, including sheltering, feeding, purchasing and distributing relief supplies, storing equipment, maintaining vehicles, and providing health and emotional support.
“The American Red Cross relies on the generosity of our volunteers, donors and partners to fulfill our lifesaving mission,” said American Red Cross President and CEO Gail McGovern. “Thanks to the support of Mazda and other ADGP companies, the Red Cross can immediately respond to the needs of people affected by disasters whenever and wherever they strike.”
By donating vehicles to the Red Cross, Mazda extends its support as part of a long-standing partnership with the Red Cross. Mazda realizes the unique ability to provide a much-needed resource—vehicles—ultimately delivering a mode of transportation for the daily business activities of so many other organizations. Donating vehicles to the Red Cross also provides Mazda with an opportunity to give back to communities in which it does business. Since 2015, 90 vehicles have been donated and delivered to Mazda dealerships all over the country, reaching Red Cross offices that are most in need of new transportation.
“It’s a privilege to be able to work with such strong non-profit partners throughout the United States—and the American Red Cross continues be a valuable partner sharing similar values as ours by supporting the communities in which we live and work,” said Masahiro Moro, President and CEO of Mazda North America Operations. “We are proud to partner with the American Red Cross and contribute to their great community-focused work.”
Each year, the Red Cross responds to nearly 64,000 disasters across the country, including home fires, hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes and wildfires. Red Cross services are provided to people in need of assistance at no cost and regardless of income through the generosity of Red Cross donors.
Individuals can help people affected by disasters by making a gift to American Red Cross Disaster Relief. Donations to Disaster Relief enable the Red Cross to prepare for, respond to and help people recover from disasters big and small.
