Riverside, CALIF. – October 11, 2019 — American Red Cross volunteers continue to provide for the immediate needs of those affected by the Sandalwood Fire. Anyone being impacted by the fire can access Red Cross services at the Red Cross shelter at Mesa Grande Academy (975 Fremont St., Calimesa, CA, 92320). The shelter will remain open as long as there is a need.
Shelter services include a safe and clean place to stay, food, hydration, comfort kits with personal hygiene items, emotional support and health services. Those affected by the fire do not need to be staying overnight at the shelter to take advantage of Red Cross services. Small, crated animals are being accepted at the Mesa Grande Academy shelter.
The Red Cross encourages those living near fire zones to stay alert and follow evacuation orders. Trained Red Cross volunteers and staff continue to work round-the-clock and stand ready to assist in various aspects including sheltering, feeding, disaster assessment, casework, and more.
A second shelter was opened to assist those affected by the Wolf Fire; however, with all needs met, the Red Cross shelter at San Gorgonio Middle School has closed as of noon on Friday, October 11. Please follow the American Red Cross Desert to the Sea Region on Twitter @RedCrossDTS for the latest updates.
