Dale Kunce is the Chief Executive Officer of the National Capital Greater Chesapeake Region of the American Red Cross, leading one of the organization’s most complex and high impact regions across Northern Virginia, Maryland, District of Columbia, and the Delmarva Peninsula. He oversees more than 10,000 volunteers and staff to execute mission delivery across all lines of service including disaster response, support for the military and their families, fundraising and blood collections.
In his previous role as CEO of the Cascades Region of the Red Cross, he led the region through the historic 2020 Oregon Wildfires, coordinating across government agencies, elected officials, national Red Cross resources, and private sector partners.
Earlier in his Red Cross career, Dale served as the Global Lead for Information and Communications Technology, where he co founded the Missing Maps initiative and led major advancements in data, geospatial intelligence, and field readiness used across the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. He has deployed to large scale disasters across Africa, Asia, and the United States and has advised Fortune 100 companies on technology innovation, open data, and corporate social impact.
Dale’s background is strengthened by early experience in urban planning, geospatial strategy, and technical systems design, including work supporting local, state, and federal governments, long range climate and infrastructure planning, and NASA’s International Space Station program. He is a past President and Board Member of the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOTOSM), where he guided organizations strategy, global growth and initial executive transition.
A member of Leadership Greater Washington (’25) and a 2020 Portland Business Journal 40 Under 40 honoree, Dale holds a B.S. from the University of California, Davis, and lives in Washington, D.C., with his wife and two children.
