FAIRFAX, VA - June 20, 2017 - The American Red Cross in the National Capital Region recently held its Annual Meeting on Thursday, June 15th in the Hall of Service at the American Red Cross National Headquarters in Washington, DC. The event's theme was 100 Years of Wow, celebrating 100 years of service in communities throughout the region, including Loudoun, Prince George’s, Montgomery, Prince William, Arlington, Alexandria and the District of Columbia. Some of the evening’s notable speakers included Chairman of the Board Richard Duvall, Brigadier General Erik H. Torring III, Dr. Charlene Drew Jarvis, Major General Carl H. McNair, Jr. (Ret.) and National Capital Region’s Chief Executive Officer, Linda Mathes.
Nic Robles, an AvalonBay Communities employee, received the Certificate of Extraordinary Personal Action for successfully performing CPR during an emergency and saving a life. Dr. Charlene Drew Jarvis also received an award in appreciation of her father, Dr. Charles Drew, and his lifesaving medical discoveries and enduring impact.
The Annual Meeting included an update from Greg Baroni, Chair, Nominations, Board Development & Engagement Committee, and the election of candidates to the Board of Directors. The American Red Cross in the National Capital Region Board of Directors approved the nominations for Fred Blackburn, Michelle Bolles, Richard Duvall, Juan Carlos Iturregui, Laura Kennedy, Tim Murphy, Stanley Podlasek, John Saad, Susan Santana, Zaki Saleh, Todd Stottlemyer, Doug VanDyke and Bruce Schutte.
