On September 27, the Red Cross of the National Capital & Greater Chesapeake Region welcomed Courtney Bulger as the new National Capital Area Chapter Executive Director.
“I could not be more excited about bringing Courtney onto the team,” said Linda Voss, CEO for the Red Cross of the National Capital & Greater Chesapeake Region. “Clearly the mission behind our lifesaving Red Cross work is in her heart – it was a perfect match!”
Courtney brings with her nearly 30 years of experience in the DC-metro area, including leadership positions working with the Fairfax County Public Schools and the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce. Always keeping service at the top of mind, she has also dedicated her professional time to the International Association of Fire Chiefs and NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Association. Courtney holds a B.A. from the University of Richmond and an MPA from George Mason University. She is also a 1998 graduate of Leadership Fairfax and a 2004 graduate of the Sorenson Institute at the University of Virginia.
“I have always admired the work of the American Red Cross,” said Bulger. “I am honored and humbled to now be a small part of this great organization.”
In addition to collecting lifesaving blood, the National Capital Area Chapter of the Red Cross works 24/7/365 to ensure those with disaster-caused needs in Alexandria City, Arlington County, the District of Columbia, Fairfax City, Fairfax County and Falls Church City have access to lifesaving support and resources. Most often, NCA Chapter volunteers provide essential resources following home fire-related emergencies—over 400 incidents in just the past 12 months.
As the executive director, Courtney will work closely with the chapter’s all-volunteer board of directors – focusing on volunteer engagement, biomedical collections, diversity, equity & inclusion, and raising the donor dollars necessary to fuel the lifesaving work of the American Red Cross.
“Courtney has joined our team during a critical time,” said Jim Sheaffer, Chairman of the Board for the National Capital Area Red Cross Chapter. “Ensuring seamless service delivery amid the on-going global pandemic is no easy task – but I am confidant Courtney is up to the challenge.”
