FT. LAUDERDALE, FLA. (July 24, 2023) – The Broward County Chapter of the American Red Cross is proud to welcome Eugene “Geno” Tangney, Debbie Banks-Snyder and Dr. Moises Issa as officers of its Board of Directors, made up of leaders within our Board of Directors who give of their time, expertise and compassion in support of Red Cross humanitarian services.
“Geno, Debbie and Dr. Issa are all well-respected leaders in the community, and we are delighted to have them serve as our Chapter Board officers,” said Paula Prendergast, Executive Director of the Broward County Chapter. “Their passion for the Red Cross is unparalleled and they make an incredible asset to our Chapter, especially during times of disaster response.”
Down the street, across the country and around the world, the Red Cross helps residents prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies and disasters large and small. The organization serves the residents of Broward County through the power of its workforce and the generosity of the American public.
Eugene “Geno” Tangney, Board Chairman
Tangney currently serves as Vice President of Global Used Vehicle Sales for Ryder System, Inc., a $12 billion supply chain, dedicated transportation, and fleet management solutions company. Responsible for driving growth and ever-better customer experiences, Tangney leads a team of 300 sales professionals utilizing new product innovation with a focus on technology to re-market Ryder’s 260,000 commercial vehicles through the largest physical and digital retail network of used commercial vehicles for sale in North America.
Over his impressive 30-year career, Tangney has been recognized as a mentor, coach, and leader who builds extraordinary teams. His leadership and expertise are frequently tapped in national speaking engagements and industry events. He has been recognized as an outstanding contributor by being voted into Ryder’s prestigious sales organization honoring excellence.
While attending Saint Michael’s College in Vermont, Tangney served as the captain of Saint Michael’s Fire & Rescue and it was during these experiences that he saw firsthand and grew to understand the mission and importance of the Red Cross. In 2021, he was honored to join the Broward County Chapter of the American Red Cross representing Ryder, a long-time supporter, having been a member of the Annual Disaster Giving Program for nearly 30 years. As a longstanding national partner, Ryder has provided financial resources, trucks, and volunteers to support disaster relief efforts locally and nationwide. In 2023, Tangney is proud to be a part of the outstanding Broward County Chapter’s Board of Directors and has been named its Chairman.
Debbie Banks-Snyder, Board Secretary
Banks-Snyder serves as Owner/Vice President at Lago Mar Resort, where she has worked for decades. She has been responsible for International Sales which involved contracting/working with tour operators from all over the world as well as working closely with the Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau.
During this time period Debbie served as Chairman of the Welcome Hospitality Committee for the 1994 Florida Huddle. As Chairman, she coordinated over 150 volunteers and succeeded in giving over 1500 Huddle delegates from all over the world a fantastic welcome to our city. She then stepped up to become Vice Chairman Florida Huddle the next time Huddle came to Broward County. She also served on the board for the Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association and was a member of the Leisure Marketing Advisory Group.
In addition to her career, Banks-Snyder has always been involved in and cherished the community. She has been honored by the American Cancer Society as one of the "Women of the Year" representing Covenant House Florida. Other community events she participated in were: Board Member for *Name That Seat Campaign' for the Broward Center for the Performing Arts; Co-Chairman of the Easter Lily Ball: Co-Chairman of the Museum and Discovery of Science Gala; Co-Chairman of the Beaux Arts "Up on the Rooftop", and many others.
Although Banks-Snyder is mainly devoted to her family and Lago Mar Resort, she still treasures her community involvement, which comprises of several organizations. She is involved with the Tiffany Circle for the Red Cross and has now been named Board Secretary of the Broward County Chapter’s Board of Directors.
Dr. Moises Issa, Board Vice-Chairman
Dr. Issa was raised in Miami where he attended middle and high school. He went on to receive a bachelor’s degree in biological science with a minor in chemistry from Florida State University.
He then received his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine. Dr. Issa did a one-year internship in family practice at Prince George’s Hospital in Maryland and went on to do a three-year residency in internal medicine at Crozer Chester Hospital affiliated with Temple University in Philadelphia.
Dr. Issa specializes in treating diabetes, hypertension, rheumatoid arthritis and pain management. He’s one of the few physicians in Hollywood, Fla. recommended by the Steven Johnson Syndrome Foundation to treat the syndrome.
Dr. Issa is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, Diplomate of the American Association of Physician Specialists and Diplomate of the American Board of Geriatrics. For the past five years, he has been actively involved in clinical research and does charity work with orphans in Nicaragua. He is a part of the Broward County Chapter of the American Red Cross and has now been named Board Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors.
