MIAMI, December, 2017 – The American Red Cross announced a generous gift of $430,000 from Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) _ through its charitable foundation and employees _ to the Greater Miami and the Keys Chapter toward hurricane relief.

As a longstanding partner, FPL’s support to affected communities and to those we serve enabled the Red Cross to provide emergency shelter, food and comfort to those recovering from the devastation of the 2017 hurricane season.

“We are so grateful to FPL for their incredible commitments to the American Red Cross’ disaster response over the past several months,” said Emily Borababy, chapter executive director. “As fellow responders, FPL understands well the unique challenges inherent to disaster response, and the need to support our organization’s efforts and, most importantly, our volunteers. We are thankful for their ongoing support.”

As the destructive force of Hurricane Maria became apparent, FPL made it known that the company stood at the ready to offer support as it joined with the entire electric power industry to help restore power to Puerto Rico. FPL employees were also encouraged to supplement assistance efforts with donations that received a company match.

“These relief donations, in addition to the recent deployment of FPL restoration personnel and equipment to Puerto Rico to help with the massive power restoration effort, complement the incredible recovery efforts undertaken by the American Red Cross,” said Irene White, FPL senior director of external affairs, Miami-Dade. “We very much appreciate organizations such as the American Red Cross, which dedicate all important resources to those in need of shelter, food and comfort as they continue to recover from the recent devastating hurricane season.”
