FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (August 13, 2019) – On Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa, the Broward County Chapter of the American Red Cross will present the 2019 Humanitarian Awards at its annual Dine & Dock Celebrity/CEO and Experience Auction. The 2019 Honorees are philanthropist Monica Maroone; Lt. Derek Wallin, Commanding Officer at the Coast Guard Station Fort Lauderdale; and Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students Jason Halpern and Luke Rothstein.
All honorees embody the spirit of the American Red Cross through their contributions to the welfare and quality of life of South Florida residents. Halpern and Rothstein, both juniors, have raised over $23,000 to fund Stop the Bleed kits, which are now present in every classroom at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School because of their efforts. In addition, they have founded the club “M·S·D mind·strength·determination to Stop the Bleed” with a mission to empower, educate and equip students with lifesaving Stop the Bleed skills. Their hope is to help all students and teachers in Broward County and other school districts in the state of Florida, and ultimately to inspire students around the nation to form their own Stop the Bleed clubs.
Dine & Dock, an annual signature event, is the single largest fundraiser for the Broward County Chapter. The event begins with an ultra-chic VIP Reception at 5:30 p.m. with gorgeous ocean views where guests can mix and mingle with VIP’s, celebrities and CEO’s who created exciting personal experiences to auction.
During the networking Welcome Reception hosted by JM Family Enterprises, Inc. at 6:30 p.m., guests will enjoy a variety of delicious food stations and fabulous cocktails. At 7:30 p.m., Cindy Imperato, Event Chair, and Alexandra Bader, Immediate Past Event Chair, will kick off the program presenting the 2019 Honorees with their prestigious Humanitarian Awards. The presentation will be followed by the high-energy powerhouse VIP Celebrity auction sponsored by Keiser University.

We are grateful for the event committee and the exceptional work they put into this event,” said Paula Prendergast, executive director of the Broward County Chapter. “As a humanitarian organization it is an honor to recognize local humanitarians that make a difference in Broward County and raise critical funds to support our life-saving mission.”
