FORT MYERS, Fla. (October 15, 2019) – The American Red Cross Southern Gulf Chapter is partnering with United Way of Lee, Hendry, Glades, and Okeechobee for Make a Difference Day to provide Lee County residents the opportunity to learn lifesaving CPR skills to help save a life.
On October 25 and 26, the community will have six opportunities to register for a free 30-minute Hands-Only CPR Training course at the United Way Campus in Fort Myers, Fla. All sessions are free and open to the public.
More than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside a hospital each year. When you immediately provide Hands-Only CPR, you can increase the chance of survival.
Within 30-minutes, a Red Cross Hands-only CPR course can teach participants how to check for consciousness, call 911, and give continuous chest compressions.
“When seconds count knowing simple lifesaving techniques like hands-only CPR can save a life,” said Jill Palmer, executive director for the Southern Gulf Chapter. “Working alongside our partners at United Way we are able to provide this training in our community on Make a Difference Day.
The purpose of the Hands-Only CPR course teaches untrained bystanders how to perform hands-only CPR. Having more citizen bystanders trained in this simple skill can help save lives by putting more cardiac arrest victims within a few steps of lifesaving assistance.
"Hands-Only CPR is an important presentation that can empower people of all ages to make a difference. We are thrilled to partner with the American Red Cross Southern Gulf Chapter on this potentially life-saving initiative." Jeannine Joy, President and CEO of United Way of Lee, Hendry, Glades, and Okeechobee.
Learn how to deliver lifesaving CPR care without rescue breaths and be prepared by joining a free class provided by the Red Cross and United Way on October 25 and 26.
