FORT MYERS, Fla. (October 12, 2020) – The Florida Gulf Coast to Heartland Chapter of the American Red Cross announced that Jim Mahon joined its Board of Directors.
For over 25 years, Jim Mahon has led the institutional advancement efforts of universities, hospitals and health systems. As the Chief Development Officer for NCH Healthcare System, Mahon draws on this depth of experience in philanthropy, business development and organizational leadership.
Most recently, Mahon served as a Senior Advisor with TiER1 Healthcare and served in leadership roles including Interim Executive Vice Dean, School of Medicine, at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, Vice President of Communications and Academic Resources, Interim Executive Director for Student Services, and Interim Executive Director for Research Services at the University of Texas Medical Branch.
“Jim is passionate about community engagement. He understands the mission of the Red Cross and the vital role we play in our community,” said Jill Palmer, executive director for the chapter. “With his focus on collaboration and partnerships, Jim will be a wonderful addition to our board.”
Mahon holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Boston College, a Master of Arts in Student Personnel Administration, Bachelor of Science in Management from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Highly involved in the community, he has served on the boards of numerous organizations including Virginia Tech, Cancer Free Kids of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, the Greater Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce, Mercy Health Partners and others. Additionally, Mahon volunteered with the American Red Cross in Louisiana, participating as a Disaster Action Team member, sheltering in Texas and Louisiana following Hurricane Andrew, installing smoke alarms in Lake Charles and Baton Rouge, deploying to California during a wildfire disaster response operation, and serving on the SW Louisiana Red Cross Community Advisory Committee.
