FORT LAUDERDALE, FL, April 18, 2023—The American Red Cross, in collaboration with the City of Fort Lauderdale, continues to work around the clock to assess the needs of those impacted by the recent flooding in South Florida. As the Red Cross continues to work to provide comfort and care for those who need it most, the organization has transitioned to only having one shelter location open. The numbers have decreased as Red Cross caseworkers meet with each shelter resident to offer them a recovery plan and additional recovery resources.
The Red Cross and its partner agencies are committed to making sure that everyone impacted by this disaster is offered a safe place to go. Last night, 53 individuals & 5 pets sought refuge in the Red Cross shelter, which has been opened at the Holiday Park in Fort Lauderdale. To date, over 4950 meals have been served both in the shelter and out in the community through mobile feeding. Red Cross has also distributed over 1400 meal kits to those in need.
“Our teams have been working around the clock to provide comfort and care to the community here in Fort Lauderdale,” said Paula Prendergast, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Broward County Chapter. “We are here for the community as long as they need us.”
The Red Cross shelter is located at:
Holiday Park
1150 G. Martin Drive, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33304
The shelters offer residents assistance with essentials, such as temporary lodging, food, and personal care/health items.
