The American Red Cross is opening additional shelters in Louisiana today as it leads a massive Hurricane Harvey relief effort. As safety concerns continue, please listen to the advice of emergency officials and be prepared to evacuate quickly should the need arise.

The Glenmora, La., shelter at Grace Christian Center has reached capacity this afternoon. Those looking for assistance can visit the newly opened Christian Love Baptist Church in Alexandria.
The following Red Cross shelters are open where residents can find a safe place to stay, three meals a day, basic health services and a compassionate shoulder to lean on:
Southwest Louisiana
Calcasieu Parish: Burton Coliseum – 7001 Gulf Hwy., Lake Charles (Will open about 5 p.m.)
Northwest Louisiana
Caddo Parish: Morning Star Baptist Church – 5340 Jewella Ave., Shreveport
Central Louisiana
Rapides Parish: Christian Love Baptist Church, Family Life Center - 3575 Hudson St., Alexandria
Rapides Parish: Grace Christian Center – 1006 Seventh Ave., Glenmora (AT CAPACITY)
Anyone evacuating to a Red Cross shelter should bring essential items for each member of the family, if possible:
• Prescriptions and emergency medications
• Foods that meet unusual dietary requirements
• Identification to show residence is in affected area and important personal documents
• Hygiene supplies and other comfort items
• Supplies needed for children and infants such as diapers, formula and toys
• Special items for family members who are elderly or disabled
• Chargers for any electronic devices you bring with you
