NEW ORLEANS, SEPTEMBER 24, 2025 — The American Red Cross of Louisiana honors the memory of Christopher Coleman, a cherished volunteer whose life was defined by service, compassion and courage, who passed away unexpectedly while deployed to support communities impacted by recent wildfires and floods in Ruidoso, New Mexico.
Born in New Orleans and raised in the city’s historic 7th Ward, Christopher served our nation in the United States Air Force before becoming a Red Cross volunteer career in 2016. Over the years, he deployed 11 times across the country, supported countless families after home fires and strengthened his community through countless preparedness events.
Christopher exemplified the very spirit of humanitarian service: selfless, courageous and compassionate,” said Dr. Kenneth St. Charles, chief executive officer of the American Red Cross of Louisiana. “In the face of danger and uncertainty, he stood steadfast, offering comfort, aid and hope to those in their darkest hour. His legacy will forever be etched into the hearts of those he served and those who served alongside him.”
Christopher Coleman was laid to rest last week at Baton Rouge National Cemetery. His extraordinary example will live on in the lives he touched and in the work of the Red Cross volunteers who follow in his footsteps.
