It was a hot August day in 2018 when the electricity when out at the Desert Sands RV park in Las Vegas. With seniors needing medical care and no end to the outage in sight, the owners of the RV park needed a hand.
"The Red Cross were there day after day," said Bob McMakin, who owed the RV park at the time. "It was 110 degrees outside and people didn't have anywhere to go. I want to recognize the Red Cross for their kindness."
Red Cross staff and volunteers provided three meals a day, financial assistance, and other care to people affected by the outage for several days.
Among those who responded was Diane Orgill. "We spent a lot of time down here, and there were many challenges during the event. There were a couple older women who were on oxygen, so we made sure they had all of the supplies they needed. It was sooo hot and we worked with community partners to be sure the residents had access to all available resources."
We would like to thank Bob McMakin and the McMakin Family Trust who have made a very generous contribution to the Southern Nevada chapter of the American Red Cross which will go to support others in the Valley affected by disasters.
