Las Vegas, NV April 18, 2018 - Las Vegas Sands, through its Sands Cares corporate giving program, and the Adelson Family Foundation are providing $1.5 million in combined gifts to support the mission of the Red Cross of Southern Nevada.
“Community resiliency through preparation for and response to disasters is a hallmark mission of the American Red Cross and Red Cross of Southern Nevada,” said Alan Diskin, executive director of the Red Cross of Southern Nevada. “The combined gifts of $1.5 million from Las Vegas Sands and the Adelson Family Foundation will ensure our mission of community service remains strong, particularly in times of ongoing disaster and crisis response,” Diskin said.
“The Red Cross of Southern Nevada has been providing essential first aid and CPR training, disaster relief aid, services to assist military service members, and lifesaving blood to our community for 101 years,” said Ron Reese, Las Vegas Sands’ senior vice president of global communications and corporate affairs. “It is one of the longest standing community service agencies in our city. Day-in and day-out it provides essential services across our region, and we are proud to partner with and support them.”
Among mission areas, the grants will support an innovative Community Scholarship Fund that will allow residents of Clark County to obtain important CPR and First Aid training free of charge. Residents of Clark County can register for classes either by going to redcross.org/take-a-class or by calling 800-RED-CROSS (733-2767) option 3 and register for these certification courses by using coupon code P462SANDS0519.
In addition, the gifts will support a self-directed disaster preparedness training and an evaluation tool for organizations and businesses called Ready Rating, and provide support to Red Cross volunteers and staff to ensure a strong, responsive and resilient community resource, as well as a new Emergency Response Vehicle and a new fleet vehicle for blood services.
Diskin said the support by Las Vegas Sands and the Adelson Family Foundation is critical to the agency’s mission as volunteers account for 90 percent of the organization’s staffing. The Red Cross also provides critical blood supplies to 10 of the 14 hospitals in the Las Vegas Area.
