LAS VEGAS (Nov. 26, 2025) — The American Red Cross of Southern Nevada is providing emergency assistance to 16 residents displaced by a devastating apartment fire this morning in East Las Vegas. Red Cross volunteers were on the scene offering shelter, emotional support and resources to help the six families affected begin their recovery.
“This fire has devastated families in our community, and it is especially heartbreaking for this to happen the day before Thanksgiving,” said Rachel Flanigan, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Southern Nevada Chapter. “We are committed to ensuring those affected have a safe place to stay, essential resources and the support they need as they begin to recover from this tragedy.”
The fire broke out around 7:30 a.m. at an apartment building located at 4379 Cy Cliffview Circle, near Lamb Boulevard and Vegas Valley Drive. All six units in the building were affected, leaving 16 residents, including children, without a home. The Red Cross provided immediate support including access to temporary shelter and essential supplies. Mental health and spiritual care services are also available to help residents cope with the emotional toll of the disaster.
Anyone impacted by this fire, or other disasters, is encouraged to contact the American Red Cross at 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) for help.
Thanksgiving: The Most Fire-Prone Day of the Year
This tragic fire comes just one day before Thanksgiving, the most fire-prone day of the year. Thanksgiving sees more home cooking fires than any other day, with incidents occurring nearly four times more frequently than on a typical day, according to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). In 2024, U.S. fire departments responded to an estimated 1,800 home cooking fires on Thanksgiving, a nearly 400% increase above the daily average.
Thanksgiving is a time for family and celebration but it’s also a day when distractions in the kitchen can lead to devastating fires. The Red Cross urges everyone to stay attentive while cooking and to take precautions to prevent fires.
Supporting Southern Nevadans Affected by Home Fires
Home fires are the most common disaster in the U.S., and the Red Cross of Southern Nevada is committed to helping families prepare and recover. This year alone, the Red Cross has responded to over 225 home fires in Southern Nevada, assisting nearly 1,100 people with emotional support, financial aid and recovery resources.
To further reduce the risk of home fires, the Red Cross offers free smoke alarm installations and fire safety education through its Sound the Alarm program. Residents can schedule an appointment at SoundTheAlarm.org/Nevada. During these visits, Red Cross volunteers install free smoke alarms, share information on home fire causes and prevention and help families create personalized escape plans.
