LAS VEGAS (April 11, 2025) — The Fourth Annual American Red Cross of Southern Nevada’s Las Vegas Battle of the Badges Blood Drive on Wednesday set a milestone by collecting an extraordinary 207 units of blood, surpassing the 200-unit mark for the first time. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department also claimed its first-ever Battle of the Badges title, unseating Las Vegas Fire & Rescue and the Clark County Fire Department, who had dominated the competition for the past three years.
“Our first responders have always been dedicated to saving lives, and their commitment truly shined during the Battle of the Badges blood drive,” said Rachel Flanigan, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Southern Nevada Chapter. “The 207 units of blood collected have the potential to save hundreds of lives here in Nevada and across the country.”
Police vs. Firefighters for a Cause
The friendly competition between police officers and firefighters had donors casting their votes through color-coded tickets before donating blood. A red ticket represented the firefighters, while blue signified support for the police. This year, Metro Police edged out the firefighters to bring home the coveted Las Vegas Battle of the Badges trophy for the first time.
Addressing Critical Blood Supply Challenges
The success of this year’s drive comes at a crucial time. Severe weather in other parts of the country has caused over 1,000 blood drive cancellations, resulting in more than 30,000 uncollected blood donations this year. “People in need depend on generous Red Cross blood donors, and it is vital to ensure that lifesaving blood remains available for patients,” Flanigan said.
The Red Cross of Southern Nevada urges the community to support ongoing blood donation efforts as the nation’s blood supply remains under strain. Donors can schedule appointments through the Red Cross Blood Donor App, by visiting redcross.org/Give-Blood or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

This lifesaving event was made possible by partnerships with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, Clark County Fire Department, FOX5 Las Vegas, Suburban Propane, Palace Station, Findlay Subaru of Las Vegas, Semper Fi Heating & Cooling, Republic Services, Walker Furniture and Rimini Street.
