LAS VEGAS (April 7, 2023) — The American Red Cross of Southern Nevada today announced Las Vegas-headquartered Boyd Gaming has donated $50,000 to support ongoing disaster relief efforts for victims of devastating tornadoes in Mississippi.
“This donation will help provide shelter, food and health services to the many Mississippi residents affected by ongoing storms and tornadoes,” said Rachel Flanigan, American Red Cross of Southern Nevada Executive Director. “The journey to recovery will be long and depends on this type of support and generosity.”
Boyd Gaming has two properties in Mississippi – Biloxi and Tunica – and has been a part of the community for more than 30 years as well as an active partner with the American Red Cross. “We believe in helping our neighbors and friends when they need us most,” said Vincent Schwartz, Senior Vice President of Operations for Boyd Gaming and General Manager of IP Casino Resort Spa in Biloxi. “We are always proud to support the Red Cross as they provide relief and assistance so our communities can recover and rebuild.”
Nearly 1,000 trained Red Cross disaster workers from across the U.S. are on the ground in nine states, including Mississippi, to support people after recent deadly storms in the South and Midwest. The Red Cross is coordinating with other nonprofit organizations and local officials and have provided 1,500 overnight stays and more than 100,000 meals to those in need.
More than 2,000 homes have been destroyed or have major damage from storms in Mississippi, and stronger and more frequent disasters are repeatedly striking vulnerable communities and families across the country. “As we continue to see these devastating impacts each year, we’re grateful for Boyd Gaming’s generosity and partnership as we work to expand our capacity and services in to help people in times of great need.”
Boyd Gaming contributes to nonprofit organizations that support the common good in states where they operate: Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada and New Jersey.
