LAS VEGAS (July 6, 2026) — American Red Cross of Southern Nevada volunteers responded to 10 home fires across Southern Nevada on Saturday and Sunday, July 4 and 5, helping 32 people forced from their homes during the holiday weekend.
After a home fire, Red Cross disaster volunteers meet with families to help address their immediate needs, which often include emergency lodging, meals and clothing. Trained volunteers also offer emotional support, help with replacing prescription medications and glasses and connect residents with community resources for temporary housing and other recovery needs.
“Home fires can change a family’s life in minutes, and our volunteers were there throughout the weekend to help people facing one of the hardest moments they may ever experience,” said Rachel Flanigan, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Southern Nevada Chapter. “In the coming days and weeks, volunteer caseworkers will continue to help these families as they begin to recover.”
Anyone affected by a home fire or other disasters can contact the American Red Cross at 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) for assistance.
