RENO, Nev. (June 23, 2026) — American Red Cross of Northern Nevada volunteers on Monday continued assisting Hidden Valley residents after a flash flood Friday sent mud, rocks and rainwater rushing through streets, into yards and into some homes.
About 2.5 inches of rain fell in less than an hour on Friday, causing flash flooding, according to the National Weather Service. Red Cross volunteers conducted damage assessments in the neighborhood and found six homes with major damage and 15 with minor damage. Over the weekend, Washoe County and Reno crews worked in the neighborhood to clear mud and debris from streets and assist residents. Crews returned Monday to continue removing mud from roadways.
“Flooding can quickly devastate families and communities,” said Bridget Posson, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Northern Nevada Chapter. “We’re here to support residents through this and help connect them with the resources they need. We’ll keep working with local partners to make sure families do not face this disaster alone.”
Red Cross volunteers distributed shovels and cleanup kits to residents as they started clearing the mud left behind by the flash flood. The kits include mops, brooms, buckets, bleach and other cleaning supplies to help residents clean their homes.
Red Cross assistance is available to residents affected by flooding, home fires and other disasters. All Red Cross disaster services are free. Anyone who needs help can call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcross.org.
