RENO, Nev. (August 14, 2023) — American Red Cross of Northern Nevada volunteers will play a vital role in the Incline Village Evacuation Exercise held Wednesday, Aug. 16, 9 a.m. to Noon. Red Cross volunteers will welcome community members into the simulated shelter once they have successfully evacuated their homes. Red Cross participants will be available for media interviews.
WHEN: Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2023, 9:00 a.m. – Noon.
WHERE: Incline Village Recreation Center, 980 Incline Way, Incline Village, NV 89451.
“The threat of wildfire is a real danger in our community, and we are grateful to get the opportunity to help Incline Village prepare,” said Sharie Lewis, American Red Cross of Northern Nevada Disaster Program Manager. “In a wildfire, sometimes you only have a couple of minutes notice to evacuate your home and being prepared and practiced in that moment could save your life or the life of someone you love.”
The evacuation drill is being hosted by Washoe County Emergency Management, in collaboration with the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District and Washoe County Sheriff's Office. The 2nd Creek area of Incline Village, NV, is invited to participate. The purpose of this exercise is to test the effectiveness of the Regional Evacuation, Shelter, and Mass Care Plan in response to a simulated wildland fire west of the 2nd Creek neighborhood.
Residents and local businesses in the designated area are encouraged to participate in the drill and familiarize themselves with the evacuation procedures.
