LAS VEGAS (Jan. 11, 2025) — This morning, American Red Cross volunteers from Southern Nevada responded to a fire at the Paradise Spas condominiums on Las Vegas Boulevard, providing immediate assistance to 29 people displaced by the blaze.
Firefighters arrived at the scene at 9457 Las Vegas Blvd. S., today at about 9 a.m. where the fire damaged or destroyed nine units. Red Cross is coordinating with the property management, who plans to have units available for displaced residents by Monday.
The Red Cross is providing immediate support, including access to temporary shelter, food, clothing, personal care items, and financial assistance as needed. “Our dedicated volunteers were on site, offering emotional support and addressing the emergency needs of those affected,” said Rachel Flanigan, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Southern Nevada Chapter. “We’ll continue working closely with these families in the coming days and weeks to help them recover.”
Supporting Nevadans Affected by Home Fires
Red Cross Disaster Action Team volunteers and staff frequently respond to home fires, offering vital support to affected families. Home fires remain the most common disaster in the United States.
Last year, the Red Cross of Southern Nevada responded to over 300 home fires, assisting more than 1,350 people. “This work is only possible because of our volunteers, community partners and generous donors,” Flanigan said. “Together, we bring hope and relief to those in need when disaster strikes.”
Empowering Communities with Fire Safety
To address the ongoing risk of home fires, the Red Cross of Southern Nevada continues to work with local partners to provide free smoke alarms and fire safety education. Last year, volunteers installed more than 2,000 free smoke alarms in homes, helping to protect families in the community. “We’re also providing families with the knowledge they need to evacuate safely during a fire,” Flanigan said. Residents can schedule free smoke alarm installations and home safety consultations at SoundTheAlarm.org/Nevada.
During these visits, Red Cross volunteers and community partners share valuable advice on fire prevention, evacuation procedures, and the importance of having an emergency plan that includes all members of the household, including pets. “Many people don’t realize they only have about two minutes to escape a home fire or that smoke alarms need to be replaced every 10 years,” Flanigan said.
Supporting Your Community
Additional Disaster Action Team volunteers are needed in Clark County to ensure someone is always ready to respond when disaster strikes. After initial training, Red Cross disaster volunteers are prepared to respond to local emergencies, such as home fires, offering immediate support on-site or remotely. With experience and additional training, volunteers can deploy to major emergencies or disasters locally and nationwide. Explore disaster response volunteer opportunities at redcross.org/DAT.
