LAS VEGAS (Oct. 1, 2025) — The American Red Cross of Southern Nevada is calling on music fans and blood donors to turn up the volume on lifesaving this “Rocktober.” The Red Cross is teaming up with legendary rock band Metallica to launch the Give Where You Live campaign, featuring an exclusive, limited-edition Metallica x Red Cross T-shirt for donors.
“This partnership with Metallica is a powerful way to inspire our community to give back,” said Rachel Flanigan, Executive Director of the American Red Cross of Southern Nevada. “Every blood donation helps save lives, and we’re thrilled to offer Metallica fans this unique opportunity to make a difference while celebrating their love for music.”
Donors can sign up to give blood or platelets at any Red Cross blood drive or blood donation center across the U.S. through Feb. 28, 2026, to receive the limited-edition T-shirt, while supplies last. Additionally, donors who participate during the campaign will be automatically entered to win a one-of-a-kind ESP Snakebyte guitar featuring the exclusive Red Cross x Metallica design created by famed Metallica artist Squindo and personally autographed by the band.
This campaign builds on the success of a series of Metallica x American Red Cross blood drives that began in April 2025 during the U.S. leg of the band’s M72 World Tour. That initial partnership resulted in over 2,000 blood and platelet donations. Now, the Metallica Family is invited to continue this lifesaving mission in their local communities through the Give Where You Live campaign.
How to Donate and Receive a Metallica x Red Cross T-shirt
Donating is easy and makes a difference. To receive the exclusive Metallica x Red Cross T-shirt, donors must complete a shipping information form at RedCrossBlood.org/Metallica and schedule a blood donation appointment. Donors with existing appointments are still eligible but must fill out the form before their donation to receive the T-shirt. Shirts will be mailed within two to three weeks after the donation.
In addition to the T-shirt, donors who give between Oct. 1 and Oct. 19, 2025, will receive a $10 Amazon.com gift card by email. Visit RedCrossBlood.org/Fall for details. Donors who give between Oct. 20 and Nov. 16, 2025, will receive a $10 e-gift card and be automatically entered for a chance to win one of three $5,000 gift cards. See RedCrossBlood.org/Harvest for more information.
Urgent Need for Type O and B Negative Blood
While all blood types are needed, the Red Cross is urging those with Type O and Type B negative blood to donate. Type O positive is the most transfused blood type, compatible with 85% of patients. Type O negative is the universal blood type and often used in emergencies. Type B negative is rare, found in less than 2% of the population. Patients with B negative blood can only receive transfusions from B negative or O negative donors.
