LAS VEGAS (Oct. 7, 2025) — The American Red Cross of Southern Nevada is joining communities across the Las Vegas Valley tonight to celebrate National Night Out. Volunteers will be at events in the Historic West Side, Northeast Las Vegas, North Las Vegas and Downtown Summerlin, offering vital preparedness information and showcasing opportunities to volunteer with the Red Cross.
“Red Cross volunteers are passionate about bringing people together to make our communities safer and better prepared for emergencies,” said Rachel Flanigan, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Southern Nevada Chapter. “We continue to build strong relationships with residents and first responders to ensure we’re ready to support our community in times of need.”
Where to Find Us Tonight
American Red Cross of Southern Nevada volunteers and staff will be at the following National Night Out celebrations:
Preparing for the Disasters and Beyond
Recent disasters, including the devastating wildfires in Southern California, widespread flooding and tornadoes across the Midwest and South, and deadly flooding in Central Texas, highlight the critical need for emergency preparedness. In Southern Nevada, residents face significant risks from extreme heat and flash flooding. However, preparedness now extends beyond natural disasters to include cybersecurity threats, economic instability and other man-made challenges.
“The Red Cross remains dedicated to equipping all communities with the tools and knowledge to be ready for any emergency,” Flanigan said. “We are honored to participate in National Night Out across the Las Vegas Valley. Our goal is to empower everyone to take proactive steps to prepare for disasters and make our neighborhoods safer.”
Supporting Your Community
Home fires are the most common disaster in the United States, often leaving families in urgent need of aid. So far this year, Red Cross of Southern Nevada volunteers have responded to over 200 home fires, assisting more than 900 people. Last year, volunteers responded to over 300 home fires, helping nearly 1,400 residents.
The Red Cross is actively seeking additional volunteers in Southern Nevada to meet the growing demand for disaster response. After completing training, volunteers are prepared to assist during local emergencies and, with additional experience, can deploy to major disasters nationwide.
