RENO, Nev. (March 5, 2025) — The American Red Cross of Northern Nevada invites the community to celebrate Red Cross Month by participating in a blood drive on Red Cross Giving Day, March 26. The drive will take place at the Red Cross office, located at 4750 Longley Lane, Reno, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers will also be stationed at several other local blood drives during March to provide home fire prevention tips, preparedness advice and information on volunteering.
This year, the Red Cross of Northern Nevada is teaming up with Vitalant, a nonprofit organization that conducts blood drives across Northern and Rural Nevada, to raise awareness about the ongoing need for lifesaving blood donations.
“There are few things we can do in an hour that have the potential to save so many lives, like giving blood,” said Bridget Posson, Executive Director for the American Red Cross Northern Nevada Chapter. “The demand for blood is constant and can be the difference between life and death for members of our community. Blood donors make an incredible impact by helping friends, family, coworkers and neighbors, both locally and across the country. Every unit of blood can truly save a life.”

Supporting Local and National Blood Needs
While the Red Cross does not collect blood in Northern and Rural Nevada, it plays a vital national role by supplying 40% of the nation’s blood supply to over 2,500 hospitals and transfusion centers. In Southern Nevada, nearly 20 hospitals rely on blood donations collected by the Red Cross to meet patient needs.
Every day, the Red Cross must collect approximately 12,500 blood donations and 3,000 platelet donations to meet nationwide demand. Last year, the Red Cross organized nearly 650 blood drives in Southern Nevada, resulting in the collection of over 14,800 units of blood.

Additionally, the Red Cross provides vital resources for veterans and military families, offering services like emergency communication, financial support, and assistance throughout deployments and homecomings.
How to Get Involved
