LAS VEGAS (Sept. 29, 2025) — The American Red Cross of Southern Nevada today announced it has received a $10,000 grant from the NV Energy Foundation to enhance disaster preparedness and response efforts. The funding will help ensure lifesaving supplies, trained volunteers and emergency vehicles are ready to assist families in need across Southern Nevada.
“We are honored to partner with nonprofit organizations that make a meaningful difference in the lives of Nevadans,” said Tony Sanchez, NV Energy Executive Vice President, Business Development and External Relations and an NV Energy Foundation board director. “Supporting the American Red Cross in Nevada reflects our ongoing commitment to enhancing community safety and resilience.”
The grant will allow the Red Cross of Southern Nevada to remain prepared for disasters by providing essential supplies such as nonperishable food and blankets, training disaster-response volunteers who make up 90% of the Red Cross workforce and maintaining emergency response vehicles to ensure they are ready to deliver aid when needed. In addition, the NV Energy Foundation donated $10,000 to the Red Cross in Northern Nevada, bringing their total contribution to $20,000 to support disaster relief efforts statewide.
“Our local Red Cross volunteers are on the ground providing compassionate care whenever a disaster strikes, and this generous support from the NV Energy Foundation is critical to that mission,” said Rachel Flanigan, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Southern Nevada Chapter. “This grant ensures we have the resources, from relief supplies to trained responders, ready to deploy whenever disasters strike.”
Supporting Your Community
Home fires are the most common disaster in the United States, often leaving families in urgent need of aid. Flanigan emphasized the importance of volunteer support, stating, “The presence of the Red Cross and its volunteers ensures displaced residents receive the critical support they need to rebuild their lives.”
So far this year, Red Cross of Southern Nevada volunteers have responded to nearly 200 home fires, helping more than 900 people. Last year, Red Cross volunteers responded to over 300 home fires, assisting nearly 1,400 residents.
The Red Cross is seeking additional volunteers in Southern Nevada to meet the growing demand for disaster response. After training, volunteers are prepared to assist during local emergencies and, with additional training and experience, deploy to major disasters nationwide. Learn more at redcross.org/DAT.
Empowering Communities with Fire Prevention
Residents can also help prevent home fire tragedies through the Sound the Alarm campaign, which offers free smoke alarm installations and fire safety education. During visits, Red Cross volunteers and community partners provide home fire prevention information and evacuation planning guidance for all members of the household, including pets.
