RENO, NV (October 7, 2019)-Reducing the chance of injury and death can be as simple as one, two, three. The American Red Cross of Northern Nevada wants residents to consider the following three questions: “Does your home have a fire safety plan? Do you and your family have an escape plan? Are the smoke alarms in your home working properly?”
If the answer to any of those is no, then Fire Prevention Week, October 6-12, is a great time to take advantage of smoke alarm installations offered by the Red Cross through its Home Fire Campaign. This is a free service and there is no obligation. During the installation visit, Red Cross volunteers will also customize evacuation plans and share education information.
To request an installation, contact 775-954-1185. Please leave name, address, zip code and phone number. Callers to the hotline will receive a return call within 48 hours.
The Home Fire Campaign was launched in 2014 to reduce the number of home fire deaths and injuries by 25 percent. According to the Red Cross, on a national level every day seven people are killed, and another 36 people suffer injuries because of home fires. Most of these deaths occur in homes that lack working smoke alarms. To learn more, visit redcross.org.
