RENO, Nev. (June 26, 2025) — The American Red Cross of Northern Nevada is hosting a Volunteer Open House and Blood Drive on Saturday, June 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its office, located at 4750 Longley Lane, Reno. This community event offers a chance to help save lives, explore volunteer opportunities and enjoy some free barbecue while connecting with local Red Cross staff and volunteers.
The Red Cross of Northern Nevada is partnering with Vitalant to raise awareness about the ongoing need for lifesaving blood donations. Blood donors play a vital role in saving lives, and the Red Cross of Northern Nevada is hosting this event to provide a meaningful way to make a difference. Appointments are still available and can be scheduled at https://bit.ly/43y2XOh.
“Giving blood or volunteering with the Red Cross is about more than just helping—it’s about being part of something bigger,” said Bridget Posson, Executive Director for the American Red Cross Northern Nevada Chapter. “This event is a chance to connect with your community, make a difference and see the incredible impact we can have when we come together.”
Become a Red Cross Volunteer
The Volunteer Open House offers residents an opportunity to discover the many ways they can get involved with the Red Cross. Every day, Red Cross volunteers make a meaningful impact in their communities by supporting disaster victims, assisting with blood donations and teaching lifesaving skills. During the open house, community members will have the chance to meet current volunteers and staff, hear about their experiences and explore how they can contribute to the Red Cross mission.
“Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do,” Posson said. “Saturday’s event is a wonderful opportunity to see firsthand how you can make a difference in your community.”
Nationwide, more than 275,000 Red Cross volunteers dedicate their time to responding to emergencies, assisting military families, supporting blood drives and preparing communities for disasters. In Northern and Rural Nevada alone, over 500 dedicated volunteers contributed their time and skills over the past year. Their efforts included responding to more than 100 home fires, aiding over 500 people, installing more than 1,000 free smoke alarms and delivering critical support to those in need.
As disasters become more frequent and complex, the need for compassionate and dedicated volunteers continues to grow. Red Cross volunteers make life-changing differences for those in need. Training is provided, and there are opportunities to match a variety of skills and interests. To join the team, visit redcross.org/volunteer.
Enjoy Free Barbecue and Connect with Your Community
In addition to donating blood and learning about volunteer opportunities, attendees can enjoy a free barbecue while mingling with other community members. It’s a family-friendly event designed to bring people together for a good cause.
