LAS VEGAS (Jan. 7, 2023) — Pro Football Hall of Famer and blood donor Peyton Manning and the American Red Cross are offering a chance to win big in January, simply by donating blood. In partnership with the National Football League (NFL), those who come to give blood, platelets or plasma Jan. 1-31, will be automatically entered to win a trip for two to Super Bowl LVII in Arizona.
Manning says he is inviting the public to join him in helping save lives. “If everyone does their part, and we collectively commit to donating blood, we can stack up those wins for hospital patients who are counting on us,” he said. “A single individual is certainly impactful, but a whole team of people coming together to donate has an even greater effect.”
The trip for two to Super Bowl LVII in Arizona*, includes access to day-of, in-stadium pre-game activities, tickets to the official Super Bowl Experience, round-trip airfare to Phoenix, three-night hotel accommodations (Feb. 10-13, 2023), plus a $500 gift card for expenses.
January is National Blood Donor Month and designed to encourage everyone to give blood and help ensure that hospitals have the lifesaving supply that patients depend on, said Rachel Flanigan, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Southern Nevada Chapter. “Severe winter weather and seasonal illnesses can make January a tough month for donors to schedule and keep appointments – so we want to provide an incentive,” she said.
Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs a blood transfusion
Donors of all blood types – particularly type O, the blood group hospitals use most – are needed now to give blood to help meet demand. Schedule an appointment today by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting redcrossblood.org, or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
The Red Cross supplies about 40% of the nation’s blood. Donors make that possible
“For as long as medicine has been around, we’ve relied on the generosity of others to give blood so it’s available when needed,” Flanigan said. “Any of us – our friends, family, neighbors – could be in an accident or become ill some day and need a transfusion. Yet, in the U.S., where 62% of the population is eligible to give, only 3% does. We’re working to increase that number.”
Give blood during National Blood Donor Month – and more
Another way to celebrate National Blood Donor Month and support the lifesaving mission of the Red Cross is to become a volunteer blood donor ambassador at Red Cross blood drives. Blood donor ambassadors help greet, check-in and thank blood donors to ensure they have a positive donation experience.
Volunteers can also serve as transportation specialists, playing a vital role in ensuring lifesaving blood products are delivered to nearby hospitals.
