RENO, Nev. (Feb. 10, 2025) — The American Red Cross of Nevada has announced Bridget Posson as the new executive director of the Northern Nevada Chapter. In this role, she will lead a dedicated team of volunteers and oversee essential Red Cross programs and services for more than 800,000 residents across 12 counties and Carson City.
Heidi Ruster, Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross Utah/Nevada Region, commended Posson’s appointment. “Bridget’s unwavering commitment to helping others and fostering meaningful connections within the community will greatly enhance the Red Cross’s impact in Northern Nevada. Her vast experience working with volunteers, community leaders and compassionate networks will further strengthen the mission of the Red Cross in the region.”
Experienced Nonprofit Leader and Advocate
Posson brings a wealth of experience from her career in nonprofit leadership, where she has focused on education, family support, environmental advocacy and improving lives. Her background positions her for success in advancing the Red Cross’s mission.
Most recently, Posson served as the grants manager for Sierra Community House, securing funds to support critical services such as hunger relief, legal aid, immigration assistance, family-strengthening programs, and aid for victims of intimate partner violence, domestic violence, sexual abuse, and child abuse.
“My focus has always been on helping those in need and being a guiding hand during times of crisis,” Posson said. “I believe my experience in various aspects of nonprofit work has prepared me to lead effectively and continue making a difference through the American Red Cross.”
Dedication to Volunteers and Community Impact
As executive director, Posson will collaborate with local community partners and elected officials, lead fundraising efforts, and serve as the primary spokesperson for the Northern Nevada Chapter. A key aspect of her role will be to engage and mobilize volunteers—integral to driving the Red Cross’s lifesaving mission forward.
“Volunteering transforms lives by providing help, hope and a sense of purpose,” Posson said. “Whether it’s offering emotional support to disaster survivors, teaching critical lifesaving skills, organizing blood drives, or supporting military families, volunteers are at the heart of what we do and ensure we’re ready when people need us most.”
Throughout her career, Posson has held leadership roles in various nonprofits, including the Hunger Coalition in Bellevue, ID, Girls on the Run of Southern Idaho, and Exploring New Horizons Outdoor School in California. She holds a master’s degree in Education and a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies and Earth Sciences from the University of California, Santa Cruz.
