RENO, Nev. (April 27, 2022) – The American Red Cross of Northern Nevada will provide fire preparedness training and education at the Palomino Valley fire awareness event Saturday, May 7, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The event is open to adults and children and will be held at the Model Farm Events Center, 5055 Pasture View Road.
Knowing how to prepare and respond to a fire is key to saving lives, according to Mary Powell, executive director of the Northern Nevada Chapter. “No neighborhood or rural area is immune from fire,” she said. “That’s why we’re pleased to participate in Palomino Valley’s fire awareness event. We’ll have the opportunity to help adults and children learn about fire prevention and preparedness.”
Red Cross personnel will provide training at three classes. No pre-registration is required.
Prepare with Pedro (9:15-10 a.m.)
Learn how to prepare for and cope with home fires or a local disaster. For children ages 5-7; parents/guardians welcome.
Pillowcase Project (10:15-11 a.m.)
Increase understanding of natural hazards, prepare for and cope with emergencies. For children ages 8-11; parents/guardians welcome.
Be Red Cross Ready (11:15-12 p.m.)
Learn how to prepare yourself, family members, home, and automobiles for disasters and evacuations. Also learn how to make a kit, create a plan for safe evacuation; be Informed of changing and potentially hazardous conditions. For adults and teenagers; children may attend with parent/guardian.
