LAS VEGAS (March 1, 2024) — The Mayor of Las Vegas officially proclaimed March as American Red Cross Month in the city, joining a nationwide movement to celebrate and recognize the vital work of Red Cross volunteers who support their neighbors in times of crisis.
This proclamation underscores the enduring partnership between the city of Las Vegas and the American Red Cross of Southern Nevada, highlighting the shared commitment to fostering a resilient community prepared for emergencies. “In Las Vegas, we deeply appreciate the Red Cross volunteers who consistently step up during emergencies to help their neighbors,” said Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman. “We are truly thankful for the Red Cross’s efforts in the city of Las Vegas.”
Red Cross Month began in 1943 when President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued the first national Red Cross Month proclamation, recognizing those who give back through the American Red Cross. Every president since has issued the proclamation. “When emergencies strike, our volunteers are there to help families and individuals when it matters most,” said Rachel Flanigan, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Southern Nevada Chapter.
Support Red Cross Month
“The American Red Cross is known for bringing help and hope to those in need. However, we couldn't do our work without the generous contributions of others,” Flanigan said. “From supporting families devastated by home fires to providing lifesaving blood to hospital patients, we're able to help because so many people generously donate to our efforts. Red Cross Month is a special opportunity to remind everyone that we need and appreciate your generosity.”
Three ways you can support your community through the Red Cross
On March 27, during Red Cross Month, join the 10th annual Red Cross Giving Day by donating at redcross.org/givingday. The goal is to rally 30,000 supporters nationwide to help provide shelter, food, relief items, emotional support and other assistance for people affected by both large and small-scale disasters.
Pet supply gift card
As we approach the final weeks of winter, more blood donors are needed to solidify the blood supply heading into spring. As a token of appreciation, anyone who donates blood from March 1-24 will receive a $10 e-gift card to a pet supply merchant of their choice. Additionally, donors will automatically be entered for a chance to win one of five $3,000 gift cards. For more details, visit rcblood.org/Pets.
