LAS VEGAS (July 1, 2023) — Las Vegas-based Terrible’s is partnering with the American Red Cross of Southern Nevada to encourage blood donation during the summer when its often challenging to maintain an adequate blood supply. Terrible’s is donating 2,500 free Pony Express car washes and 2,500 free soft drinks to those who come to donate blood with the Red Cross during July.
"We are thrilled to partner with the American Red Cross and support their noble mission of saving lives through blood donations," said Bryan Breeden, Terrible’s Vice President of Marketing and Advertising. "Donating blood is a simple yet powerful act that has a tremendous impact on people's lives. Our donation of 2,500 free car washes and 2,500 free fountain drinks is a small gesture to express our gratitude and encourage more people to contribute to this vital cause."
All who come to donate during July will receive a Pony Express car wash coupon and a medium fountain drink coupon valid at any of the Southern Nevada and Southern Utah locations while supplies last.
"Every blood donation is a potential lifeline for patients in need, and we are incredibly grateful for Terrible's generous donation of car wash and fountain drink coupons," said Rachel Flanigan, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Southern Nevada Chapter. "By providing these incentives, Terrible's is not only recognizing the importance of blood donations but also making it a more rewarding experience for our valued donors. Together, we can make a significant difference in our community."
Summer slump in blood donations
During the summer, blood donations often decrease due to vacations, travel and other seasonal activities. This decline in donations can strain the blood supply and pose potential challenges for patients in need. In May, the Red Cross nationwide collected about 26,000 fewer blood donations than were needed to meet the demand of patients.
Blood donation is a vital component of emergency medical care, routine surgeries and treatments for patients of all ages. “By encouraging blood donation, Terrible’s is helping to ensure that hospitals and medical centers have the resources necessary to save lives and provide critical care” Flanigan said.
Ongoing need for blood and summer giveaways
The Red Cross supplies about 40% of the nation’s blood, collecting about 12,500 blood donations and 3,000 platelet donations every day to meet demand. “Our donors are literally the lifeblood for those undergoing medical procedures and treatments at about 2,500 hospitals and transfusion centers nationwide,” Flanigan said.
Donors of all blood types, particularly type O, the blood group hospitals use most, are needed now to give blood or platelets to help meet demand. Schedule an appointment today by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting redcrossblood.org, or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). In addition to the car wash and soft drink coupons, donors giving blood from July 1 to 11 will receive an exclusive Red Cross dry bag, while supplies last.
