RENO, Nev. (April 5, 2024) — On Saturday April 6, the American Red Cross of Northern Nevada will be joined by students from the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) in preparing and distributing information related to fire prevention and the Red Cross Home Fire Campaign. Students participating in the event are part of the UNR iServe program, in which students serve the community by volunteering to assist local organizations.

When: Saturday, April 6, 2:30 p.m.-5 p.m.
Where: KC Rotunda on the UNR campus, 1664 N. Virginia Street
Who: UNR students along with Red Cross volunteers and staff
During Saturday’s event, students will help prepare information about home fire safety and preparedness and take part in the Be Red Cross Ready presentation. Following the presentation, they will assist chapter volunteers and staff in canvassing neighborhoods near the university, providing residents with the opportunity to sign up to receive free smoke alarm installations from the Red Cross.
“Knowing how to prepare for and respond to an emergency is key to saving lives. We’re grateful for the assistance of UNR students in helping us educate residents in emergency preparedness and fire prevention,” stated Tiandra Rushing, Executive Director of the American if Red Cross Northern Nevada Chapter.
