LAS VEGAS (March 10, 2026) — The American Red Cross of Southern Nevada are providing emergency assistance to 34 residents displaced by a two-alarm apartment fire this afternoon in Central Las Vegas. Red Cross volunteers were on the scene offering access to shelter, emotional support and resources to help families rebuild.
“An apartment fire can shatter a family’s sense of security in a matter of minutes, leaving families uncertain about where they’ll sleep tonight and how to move forward,” said Rachel Flanigan, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Southern Nevada Chapter. “We’re grateful for the quick work of the first responders, and we remain committed to supporting these families in the days and weeks ahead.”
The fire broke out around 2:30 p.m. at an apartment building on Valley View Boulevard, near Sahara Avenue. All 16 units in the building were destroyed or damaged, leaving 34 residents, including at least 9 children, displaced. The Red Cross provided immediate support, including access to temporary shelter and essential supplies. Mental health and spiritual care volunteers are also available to help residents cope with the emotional toll of the fire.
Anyone affected by this fire or other disasters can contact the American Red Cross at 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) for assistance.

Empowering Communities with Fire Prevention
To help prevent home fire tragedies, residents can schedule free smoke alarm installations through the Sound the Alarm campaign. During home visits, Red Cross volunteers and community partners install smoke alarms, share fire safety information, and help families create evacuation plans for all household members, including pets.
