RENO, Nev. (April 25, 2025) — The American Red Cross of Northern Nevada is proud to celebrate the remarkable contributions of 14 local volunteers who exemplify dedication and service at its annual Volunteer Recognition Event. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, April 26, at the Red Hawk Golf and Resort, 6600 N. Wingfield Parkway in Sparks, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. These extraordinary people, along with over 450 volunteers throughout Northern and Rural Nevada, will be honored for their unwavering commitment to supporting their communities.
The event honors volunteers for their involvement in key Red Cross initiatives, including disaster relief efforts nationwide, response to flooding and residential fires, emergency preparedness, assistance to military families, teaching lifesaving skills and introducing students to preparedness.
Celebrating a Year of Dedication and Impact
Over the past year, volunteers from Northern and Rural Nevada have collectively contributed more than 12,000 hours of service. Recognizing their indispensable efforts, Bridget Posson, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Northern Nevada Chapter, stated, “Volunteers are the backbone of the American Red Cross, and their contributions are invaluable to fulfilling our mission. Whether responding to local emergencies or supporting those affected by disasters nationwide, their dedication has a profound impact on the lives of those in need. With more than 90% of our workforce comprised of volunteers, the Red Cross simply could not carry out its vital work without their extraordinary efforts.”
Highlighting Exceptional Volunteer Leadership
The event’s highlight will be the presentation of the prestigious Clara Barton Award for Meritorious Volunteer Leadership to Paulette Bridges of Reno. Named after the founder of the American Red Cross, this award recognizes outstanding volunteer leadership.
“Paulette has been a dedicated representative of the Red Cross throughout Northern Nevada for many years,” said Posson. “Her commitment extends far beyond our state and region, as she has supported communities across the country impacted by disasters.”
Paulette began her volunteer career as a Disaster Action Team member, Emergency Response Vehicle driver and disaster feeding lead. She later transitioned to a vital staff role with the Red Cross, mentoring and onboarding hundreds of volunteers. Now retired, she has returned as a volunteer, focusing on Red Cross clubs in area schools, where she helps students create meaningful change in their communities through Red Cross initiatives.
