RENO, Nev. (Aug. 20, 2026) — The American Red Cross of Northern Nevada, along with community partners and local nonprofit organizations, will open a Local Assistance Center on Friday and Saturday at Granite Hills Baptist Church for residents recovering from the Bug and Stallion wildfires.
The center will bring together nonprofit organizations, community partners and public agencies in one location to provide recovery information and resources. Volunteers and staff from participating organizations will be on site throughout both days to answer questions and help residents understand the assistance available to them.
“The days and weeks after a wildfire can bring a lot of uncertainty, especially for people who are dealing with damage to their homes and property,” said Bridget Posson, Executive Director of the American Red Cross of Northern Nevada. “Recovery looks different for every family. Some may need immediate help while others may not know what they need yet. Our goal is to make sure people know they don’t have to figure out those next steps alone.”

Red Cross Response to the Bug and Stallion Fires
The Bug and Stallion fires have burned more than 134,000 acres across northern Washoe County, forcing more than 13,000 residents to evacuate their homes. Although all residential evacuation orders have been lifted, the fires destroyed structures and damaged property, leaving some residents facing a long recovery.
As evacuations expanded, the Red Cross of Northern Nevada opened an emergency shelter at the Evelyn Mount Northeast Community Center in Reno, where evacuees found a safe place to stay, meals and assistance. Red Cross disaster workers also provided health services, emotional support and help for families beginning to plan their recovery.
The Red Cross encourages residents who experienced damage or other losses from the Bug or Stallion fires to visit the Local Assistance Center, even if they have already received support. Recovery needs often change in the days and weeks following a wildfire, and additional resources may be available.

Community support can help families facing disasters, including those recovering from the wildfires in Northern Nevada.
